Fantasia's Frigate is a First-Person 3D horror game made in unity

My Role on the project:
I functioned as the teams lead designer but I also helped out with programming when needed
- team lead 
- narrative design 
- level design
- gameplay design 
- puzzle/gameplay programming 

when i was designing fantasia's frigate i really wanted to hammer home the dreadfulness and the overall atmosphere of the frigate as the main driver for the horror aspect of the game. 
we did not have the luxury of a constant looming threat in the form of an ai so we relied on the sanity meter. 
as the sanity meter depleted the frigate would become more distorted and things would become more challenging as a result.
one of the main gameplay elements for fantasias's frigate was the puzzles 
in fantasia's frigate I designed the 9 puzzles that are playable. 
due to the nature of the choices within the game, players are not generally able to experiences every puzzle in the game, in a single play through the player will experience 4-5 puzzles

What I learned from working on Fantasia's Frigate is atmosphere is incredibly important in a horror game. as well as lighting. once we dimmed the lighting of the game and made it darker, the horror experience increased dramatically as a result. 
I also learned a lot about puzzle design and ways of designing puzzles that didn't explicitly tell the player exactly what to do.
